To connect your ds760 or Quark gyro to the computer you will need Virtual Flash-Link running on your DataPod; it is part of the DataPod application 'Editor for ds760 and Quark' and was introduced in version 1v10. The Virtual Flash-Link makes the DataPod appear as a serial (COM) port on your computer, thus allowing the ds760 and Quark computer programs to communicate with the gyro through the DataPod.
Attach the USB cable to the PC and when asked by Windows device installation wizard, point to the folder where driver files are present. When the driver installation is complete, the module should appear in Windows Device Manager as a serial port (see the picture on the right). Note down the name of the serial port (COM1, COM2, etc.).
Check your DataPod
Power on your DataPod whilst holding the [+] button pressed. The screen should display 'Editor for ds760 and Quark' and the version number must be 1.10 or newer.
If your DataPod is running a different or older software please obtain the latest version from the [DataPod Downloads] page. You must first put the DataPod in firmware udpate mode by pressing the [S] button whist plugging the DataPod to USB. The text 'USB' will appear on the screen.
Installation
Step 1: Download the 'Virtual Flash-Link Driver' from the [DataPod Downloads] page. The ZIP file contails two files which you should extract to a folder on your computer.

If the driver installation has failed a yellow exclamation mark will appear in the Device Manager next to 'Virtual Flash-Link'. Typically this will be listed under 'Other devices' however this may vary depending on your version of Windows. To rectify this problem right click on the product name and select 'Update Driver Software...'; then direct windows to the unzipped driver files you downloaded in Step 1.
The Device Manager can me located using the Windows search facility. It can also be found in the Control Panel when using classic view.
Using Virtual Flash-Link
The ds760 and Quark have certain differences in the way they connect to the computer. As you may be aware the original Flash-Link interface plugs directly to the ds760, but for the Quark the SLX adapter it also needed. The Virtual Flash-Link can operate in both modes thus allowing direct connection between the DataPod and either gyro. However, the correct mode must be manually selected.

Quark: Ensure the DataPod is powered off and not receiving power via the receiver. Plug the USB cable to your DataPod. The text 'VIRTUAL FLASH-LINK QUARK' will appear on the DataPod's screen. Now connect the Quark to the DataPad as usual (see user quide). The Quark needs to be powered via the receiver which can now be turned on.
